As of yesterday, my blog is a week old. Crazy right? Well, technically it’s only been a week since I started posting on my blog. Before I launched it, I spent nearly a week researching and setting everything up.
I’m creating a course that will allow you to see what I did step by step to set up my blog so it looks professional from day 1. This will also show you how to join groups for better exposure to different audiences as well as joining affiliate programs from the start.
I had to do a lot of research about creating a blog. It’s different reading stories from bigger bloggers because their blogs have been up for a year or more. They leave out some key aspects of the creation that I had to figure out as I went along.
Why I started my blog
I’ve already talked about this a little on my About Me page. I’ve always wanted to blog and share my experiences, but being in school made it difficult. I had too much work to do and I didn’t have the knowledge (or money) to really start a blog.
I actually had a Blogger blog for a while, but I got next to no views and not a single comment, so I thought that I must not be made for blogging.
During my research, I saw that having a blog on Blogger, made it very difficult for your blog to grow, so this inspired me to start again and do enough research before I just take the plunge.
I’m a writer by heart, so being able to share my experiences and getting such positive feedback after only a week of blogging, really means so much to me.
How I started my blog
I researched a bunch of hosting companies after I decided on my blog name. The company that had the best customer service and had amazing offers included, was Siteground. I really recommend this hosting company. Even though they are more expensive than some of the cheaper companies, you can really see the difference. Did I mention that they have 24/7 customer service? Yep! I tested it.
I downloaded WordPress and was able to choose and customize a theme through their platform. It’s very user-friendly. There are a ton of plugins that I use to make posting and maintenance on my blog just so much easier.
I use Mailerlite for my email subscriptions. Their platform is super easy to use and set up. I really recommend using them as they also have an integration with WordPress.
I use Tailwind for scheduling my Pinterest pins across all my boards and Blog2Social for scheduling posts across my social media accounts whenever a new blog post goes up. I also use BoardBooster, but I specify its use a bit more in detail in my blogging course.
Canva is my photo editor of choice when I’m creating infographics for Pinterest or Facebook. For the time being, I use free stock photos in my blog posts, but I’m working on creating my own images soon.
Results after 1 week
A lot of bigger bloggers tell newbie bloggers to not worry about pageviews or comments in their first few months of blogging, but I’ve also found a few that encourages newbies to do this and find out what works.
I’ll be honest, I’ve checked my page views a few times. Last Thursday was a great day for my blog. I got 6 times the average amount of views that I got for the rest of the week. On that specific day, I posted about Important Questions You Should Ask on the First Date. I will utilise this in the future and make sure that I write about the things my audience enjoys the most.
Feedback through comments has been very positive and this inspires me to keep on working hard and making my blog better each day.
Plans for the future
I already mentioned the blogging course. That will be something that I spend some time on perfecting.
I will not be able to post every day as I have this week. Unfortunately, I’m going on holiday soon and I cannot guarantee that I will have enough time to post every day. Therefore, I have opted for posting twice a week, but I will still be very active on social platforms every day.
